A day in the life of a journeyman millwright team lead of lift maintenance is ultimately varied by season and day to day. To easily understand the responsibilities and routines which encompass a day’s work for Troy, you could look at regular maintenance and inspection schedules, unscheduled maintenance and overall the supervision of the lift maintenance team.

A Day in the Life...

Whether it is middle of the winter or summer season, or right in the middle of shoulder season, regular maintenance and inspection schedules basically organize their day. If it is in-season, and the hill is in full operation, a major aspect of inspecting the lifts is essentially starting them up and shutting them down themselves daily.

Another very large aspect of the day to day life of a lift mechanic is, unfortunately, unscheduled maintenance. By classifying this type of work as unscheduled, it means that it is work that is unexpected and usually means down time of the lift. This type of maintenance ranges from very simple tasks such as re-tensioning magic carpet belts, to more complicated troubleshooting involving sensors and electrical components.

The most important role that Troy plays as the lead journeyman lift mechanic is the overall supervision of the crew. On account of having 2 apprentices and one helper, he must be able to focus time to teach and guide them as well as synchronize the whole crew and its’ schedule. An effective leader is detrimental to ensure a crew is able to collaborate and work together successfully. Though he tries to remain on an equal level with his team, Troy does step above them when trying to effectively supervise.
